Tina Monod is inspired by the valleys and oceans, lakes and mountains of Canada. Her Canadian landscapes are boldly beautiful and vibrant in nature!
Her style is both impressionistic and expressionistic in how she captures light and layers with colour. Born in Kelowna, British Columbia Tina Monod chose to pursue her art education in Victoria with a visual arts degree. Monod is a graduate from the University of Victoria with a B.F.A. Honours. She enjoys photographing nature on her walks and these photos become her paintings.
When creating with acrylic paint I will begin with an underpainting and allow this base colour to be integral in my process. My landscapes begin with a sky that is atmospheric allowing for clouds to break up and disperse. Sometimes the cloud composition with gather and grow. My nocturne paintings reveal stars that shine in the luminous night. Each has a star to wish upon. Each painting is a process of layers, which fill in the mountain peaks and forested valley below, establishing both elevation and tree line. With this the trails and bodies of water are carved out. My expressionistic brush strokes remind many of Van Gogh and the Group of Seven painters.
